Our History

The Wateree Building & Loan Association was organized on September 21, 1904, in Camden, South Carolina, to promote home ownership by lending to local residents. Over time and across multiple generations, this vision expanded in size and scope, but the legacy of encouraging saving while lending to local families, small businesses, and communities remains the same.

Today, now known as First Palmetto Bank, we remain headquartered in the state’s oldest inland city of Camden. First Palmetto has grown to become one of the largest locally owned full-service financial institutions headquartered in South Carolina, with twenty-two offices across the state. The Bank offers a variety of loan, deposit, and mortgage products and remains committed to providing superior service in assisting others with achieving their financial goals.
